Toluca Lake Has Hidden Charm with a Little Bit of Ritz

Toluca Lake is a relatively small neighborhood found about 12 miles from downtown Los Angeles. It is in the southeastern part of the San Fernando Valley and neighbored by Universal City, Studio City, North Hollywood, and Burbank.

The land was developed in 1923 and soon attracted various celebrities from nearby Hollywood and LA. Today, the area has a population of less than 10,000 and covers just 1.22 square miles of land. Despite its small size, the affluent suburb has a lot to offer.

Best Attractions and Things to See in Toluca Lake

The lake is one of the main attractions in Toluca Lake but it is reserved for homeowners. Located near the southeastern part of the neighborhood, Toluca Lake is a natural lake fed by the Los Angeles River. It spans six acres and is owned by the surrounding homeowners, making it a private lake that is completely hidden from public view.

Beyond the lake, the area in and around the neighborhood offers many points of interest:

  • Cahuenga Boulevard
  • Riverside Street
  • Toluca Lake Street

Cutting through a large portion of northern LA, Cahuenga Boulevard is your source for shopping, dining, and nightlife. If you prefer browsing boutiques and niche shops, head over to Riverside Street.

Toluca Lake Street is another popular destination. The tree-lined street has been home to many stars over the years, giving you a chance to spot a celeb walking their dog or going for a jog.

Along with shopping and celeb-sighting, the Toluca Lake area has a variety of coffee shops, bakeries, parks, theatres, and public amenities.

Schools in the Toluca Lake Area

Due to the small population, many students attend school in the surrounding neighborhoods. The Los Angeles section of Toluca Lake is within the Los Angeles Unified School District.
